Broncos Win Road Match Against Yotes, 2-1

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos traveled to Cal State San Bernardino to take on the Yotes. A late goal would not be enough for the Yotes as the Broncos ran away with the win, 2-1.

The Broncos were first on the board as midfielder Nicolle Villarreal assisted forward Gillian Ortin for the goal in the 10th minute. It was in the 56th minute that forward Allyssa Larkin scored the second goal for CPP from the assist by Ortin.

The Yotes went on to score in the 84th minute. With this win, the Broncos now have an overall record of 4-5-2, and a CCAA record of 3-1-1.

Goalkeeper Audrey Brown collected four saves on the game. Both teams took ten shots on the game, but CPP had eight shots on goal and CSUSB had five shots on goal.

Leading the Broncos in shots was Ortin who took two shots, both on target for shots on goal, on top of scoring the first goal for CPP. Midfielder Jordyn Scott also took two shots both of which were shots on goal.

"I am proud of our team's effort today at a tough place against a good CSUSB team," said coach Jay Mason. "Happy for our forwards today, they took on the challenge presented to them and came through. This was another great example of a team win which we will need to build on moving forward."

CPP's next match is Sunday, October 9th against Cal State San Marcos in Kellogg Stadium with kickoff set for 2:00 pm.

Bronco Bits: Head coach Jay Mason moves to 47-37-18 in his seventh year (sixth season) at Cal Poly Pomona and 28-20-16 against CCAA opponents … The Broncos are now 181-138-52 in conference matches … CPP is now 31-17-8 against Cal State San Bernardino.
