AZUSA, Calif. – Five Broncos score in double-digits in close game win with six lead changes against the Seattle Pacific Falcons.
Along with the six lead changes the score was tied six times in the last game of the Cougar Classic in Azusa for Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos set the pace against the Falcons, scoring 15 points on fast breaks. CPP also dominated the paint, tallying 42 points against Seattle Pacific's 20 points in the paint.
The Broncos also capitalized on their defensive effort scoring 23 points off Falcon turnovers. It was the bench that played a key role as
Derrick Claxton scored 16 points on the game and
Shyheim Parm scored 11 points of his own coming off the bench.
The lead continued to change all the way into the second half with seven minutes on the clock when Winfield hit a layup to break a 63-63 tie. With 37 seconds left in the game, the score was 80-78 after a Falcon scored a three pointer. Seattle Pacific could not catch the Broncos pace and CPP hit the free throw line on fast breaks for the last five points to seal the victory.
The Broncos topped the Falcons 83-78 to take their overall record to 1-1.
Three starters added double-digit numbers to the scoresheet. Leading the Broncos in scoring was
Christopher Mitchell who scored 18 points, and had five rebounds and one steal on the game. Mitchell went six of eight from the field for and impressive .75 shooting percentage on the night.
