SEASIDE, Calif. – Sophomore guard
Chris Gayles Jr.'s 17 points led the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos to their CCAA conference opener victory over the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters, 76-67.
The Broncos the game opened with a 6-0 run when the Otters pushed back with a 16-0 run to take the lead, 19-8. To close the first half, Gayles Jr. scored six points straight and
Jaden Winfield hit a three-point shot to take the lead, 30-26.
In the second half the Broncos outscored the Otters 30-22 in the paint and scored 15 fast break points against CSUMB's 14. CPP shot 63.6% (7-11) from beyond the arc and nailed 16-28 (57.1%) from the field to collect the victory against the Otters, 76-67.
Leading the Broncos in points was Gayles Jr. who scored 17 points, had three assists and two steals. Gayles Jr. scored 2-4 (50%) from three-point range and 7-9 (77.8%) from the field.
Christopher Mitchell collected 13 points on the game and had three steals and two assists. Mitchell also shot 2-4 (50%) from beyond the arc.
Both
Jaden Winfield and
Shyheim Parm each collected 11 points, respectively. Rounding off the Broncos to score double digits was
Caleb Nelson who scored 10 points and had five rebounds.
The Broncos' next game is Saturday, December 3
rd as they take on San Francisco State with tipoff set for 3:00 pm in San Francisco.
