POMONA – Cal Poly Pomona hosted its first home match against the Concordia Golden Eagles on Thursday. Although the Broncos were first on the scoreboard, the Golden Eagles scored the last two goals to win the game, 2-1.
In the first half, Cal Poly Pomona's offensive pressure caught the Golden Eagles off guard when midfielder
Jessica Llamas scored a goal off a steal from the CUI goalkeeper on the 19th minute. Concordia went on to score its first goal to tie the game in the 22nd minute when CUI's Daniela Filipovic hit a goal off the crossbar. Going into halftime, the game was tied 1-1.
Concordia scored the go-ahead goal in the 66th minute when Sophia Munoz connected with Riley Washington, who then spun around a CPP defender and fired a right-to-left shot into the side netting for the 2-1 lead. Cal Poly Pomona attempted four shots in the second half, but could not connect. The Broncos start the 2022 season 0-1-0.
