Ramirez Scores Two in Victory Against the Golden Eagles

IRVINE, Calif. – The Broncos continue to roll past their preseason opponents as they defeated the Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles, 3-0.

In the 23rd minute of the game, forward Jerry Ramirez scored the first goal from an assist by forward Kevin Hernandez.

Midfielder Mads Frederiksen found Ramirez for his second goal of the game in the 62nd minute to expand the lead against the Golden Eagles, 2-0.

For the second time this week, midfielder Melvyn Perez Cortez earned an assist on the throw-in as he launched the ball in the box to defender Fin Jackson for the header and final goal of the game. For the third shutout in a row, CPP downed the Golden Eagles, 3-0.

"It was a great team win away from our home against a team that has always given us trouble" said Ramirez. "We stayed solid defensively and put away our chances. I am happy to get on the scoresheet and can't wait for our next game!"

The Broncos took 13 shots with six shots on goal against Concordia's 14 shots with four shots on goal. Goalkeeper Luke Garciduenas collected three saves on the game.

Leading CPP in shots was Ramirez who collected four shots with three shots on goal and two goals scored. Both forward Paul Roger Henschke and forward Cris Prieto took two shots.

"CUI is a hard place to go, we have not beaten them in four straight years" said coach Matt O'Sullivan. "Concordia never quit, credit to their coaching staff and players, but credit to us as well as we matched their energy and desire to win the game. We had some good moments that led to great goals."

The Broncos next match is on Saturday, September 17th in Los Angeles against CCAA opponent Cal State LA for their last preseason matchup.
