CHICO, Calif. - In a thrilling matchup against the Chico State Wildcats, Jeanette Fine, Sydney Nelson, Kalaya Buggs, and Reina Sausedo each scored in double figures to secure an 89-85 win for the Broncos on Saturday afternoon.
Jeanette Fine emerged as the top scorer for the Broncos, notching an impressive 21 points, with 10 of those coming in the first quarter. Fine's first points came from shaking her defender and sinking a fade-away from the right side of the key. Her overall performance included a 58.3% field goal percentage, six rebounds, three assists, and a highlight-reel block in the final minute of the opening quarter.
Reina Sausedo contributed to the Broncos' win by securing her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sausedo played a pivotal role in the second quarter, battling in the paint and scoring a layup to keep the Wildcats within reach.
As the first-half buzzer approached, the Broncos held a narrow 41-40 lead. The Wildcats had briefly surged ahead by five, but Sausedo and Buggs worked diligently down low to narrow the gap. Sydney Nelson's rebound and shot in the final moments ensured the Broncos entered halftime with a slim lead.
The third quarter saw continued back-and-forth action, with the Wildcats briefly taking the lead. Kalaya Buggs, however, rose to the occasion, achieving a double-double and finishing the night with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Sydney Nelson, the second-highest scorer of the night with 19 points, had a huge defensive block with eight minutes remaining in the tight fourth quarter. Nelson's all-around performance included six rebounds, three assists, and one block.
The game's intensity peaked in the final minute, with the Broncos holding a five-point lead. Despite a spirited effort from the Wildcats, the Broncos secured the win at 89-85.
