CARSON, Calif. – Despite jumping out to a large lead early and playing tough against the 10th-ranked team in the nation, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team fell 78-66 to host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday afternoon at the Torodome in Carson.
The Broncos fall to 12-8 overall and 9-7 in the CCAA. The Toros rise to 21-1 (15-1 CCAA).
It was all CPP early as the visitors stunned the home crowd in scoring the first 12 points of the game and taking its largest lead of 14 points at 26-12 with eight minutes to go in the first half. However, the Toros rallied to pull within three points at 35-32 going into the halftime break.
The third quarter went back and forth, ending with CPP on top 55-50. That's when CSUDH dug deep, going on a 26-9 run in the final eight minutes of the game, holding CPP to just 1 of 7 shooting and forcing seven Bronco turnovers to run away with a win in a game that the Green and Gold led for 25 minutes in.
Breanne Ha scored a team-high 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting, including five made three-pointers.
Alicia Jones chipped in with 15 points while
Ally Bates and
Sydney Fedinec both added 11 points apiece.
Ciara James missed both shots she attempted, but corralled a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Broncos made 23 of their 55 shots (41.8 percent) while the Toros were 24 of 51 (47.1 percent) from the floor.
Cal Poly Pomona returns home Thursday to host San Francisco State at 5:30 pm in Kellogg Arena.
