Claxton Scores 18 in Loss to No.14 Yotes

POMONA – Freshman forward Derrick Claxton scored 18 points in the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos loss to the No. 14 Cal State San Bernardino Yotes, 97-74, Tuesday night in Kellogg Arena. 
 
This loss puts the Broncos at an overall record of 10-10 and CCAA conference record of 7-9. The Yotes improve their record to 18-3 overall and 13-2 CCAA.
 
The Broncos continue to get all players involved, scoring 38 bench points on the game. CPP also capitalized on their defense, scoring 26 of their points off of turnovers and 22 points on fast breaks. The Yotes dominated down low, scoring 44 points in the paint and 19 second chance points.
 
Leading the Broncos in points was Claxton who scored 18 points, hitting two of three three-pointers, and had six rebounds and one assist on the game. Freshman guard Bam Johnson scored 14 points, had four assists and two rebounds.
 
Sophomore guard Chris Gayles Jr. added 12 points of his own, hitting six of 10 from the field, and had four assists and four steals on the game. Rounding off players with double-digit points was freshman gaurd Shyheim Parm who scored 10 points and had two assists and two steals on the game.
 
The Broncos' next game is Thursday, February 9th as they take on the San Francisco State Gators in Kellogg Arena, with tip-off set for 7:30 pm.
