LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Broncos hit the road and showcased a balanced offensive performance, with four players scoring in double digits, leading to a 65-52 victory over the Golden Eagles. With this win, the Broncos improve to 4-2 in the CCAA and 8-3 overall.
The first quarter set the tone as the Broncos established an early lead of 19-10. Sydney Nelson spearheaded the charge with eight points, complemented by Breanne Ha's sharpshooting, sinking two three-pointers and contributing a total of six points in the first quarter.
Entering the second quarter, the Broncos engaged in a defensive battle and Mydrea Moore made a significant impact with a crucial block, foiling the Golden Eagles' attempts to narrow the gap. Despite facing push back in the final minutes of the half, the Broncos managed to maintain their advantage. Breanne Ha's acrobatic drive to the basket in the last 30 seconds secured two points and one, sending the teams into halftime with the Broncos leading 34-26.
At halftime, Sydney Nelson continued to lead the team with 13 points. Nelson was one of four Broncos to score in double digits on the night, finishing with 14 points, five rebounds, four blocks, and one steal. Breanne Ha contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Jeanette Fine added 10 points, five rebounds, one block, and one steal.
In the third quarter, the Golden Eagles mounted a comeback, narrowing the Broncos' lead to only six points. However, Kalaya Buggs emerged as a force on offense, as she came into the game as the CCAA's best free throw shooter. Buggs scored 20 points, eight of which came from the line, secured six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Buggs, along with Ha, were the only two Broncos to play the full 40 minutes.
Taking control in the fourth quarter, the Broncos limited the Golden Eagles to only 11 points while scoring 18 points themselves. A remarkable 80.0% success rate from beyond the arc (4-for-5) propelled the Broncos to victory. Overall, the Broncos outperformed the Golden Eagles in every category, boasting a field goal percentage of 40.4% to the Eagles' 27%, a three-point percentage of 46.2% to 28.6%, and a free throw percentage of 65.4% to 55.6%. The Broncos extended their historical dominance to 87-14 all-time against the Golden Eagles with this 65-52 victory.
