Broncos Rally Late but Fall to Biola in Season Opener

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos opened their home season with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Biola in a competitive match that highlighted the team's resilience and potential for the season ahead.

From the start, both teams battled intensely, with Cal Poly Pomona's goalkeeper Luke Garciduenas making several key saves to keep the Broncos in the game. Despite these efforts, Biola broke through late in the first half to take a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The Broncos came out strong in the second half, pushing to find an equalizer. However, Biola extended their lead in the 77th minute with a goal that made it 2-0.

Cal Poly Pomona's persistence paid off shortly after when Devin Jenkins scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by Mads Frederiksen, narrowing the gap to 2-1 and sparking hope for a late comeback. Jenkins was a standout offensive presence, taking three shots with one on goal, while Frederiksen contributed with an assist and applied offensive pressure despite not registering a shot on goal. Additionally, Clement Badger was active offensively with four shots and two on goal, showing promise in the attack.

Jenkins shared his excitement, saying, "I have been dreaming of that moment since I was a kid and can't believe it actually happened. As soon as I scored I had no idea what to do and just started running around. It was an unfortunate loss today, but I'm still seeing a bright season ahead for this team."
