Broncos Unable to Overcome Early Deficit in Loss to Cal State San Marcos

POMONA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona continued its homestand with a setback on Saturday afternoon, falling 79-60 to Cal State San Marcos in CCAA action. The loss drops the Broncos to 8-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play, as the Cougars controlled the tempo and built separation early.

Cal State San Marcos established momentum from the opening tip, using pressure defense and efficient perimeter shooting to jump out to an early lead. Cal Poly Pomona struggled to find rhythm offensively in the first half, as turnovers and missed looks from three allowed the Cougars to extend the margin. Despite interior finishes from Kevin Simeth and efforts on the glass, CPP trailed 42-26 at halftime.

The Broncos responded coming out of the break with improved energy, attacking the paint and stringing together stops on the defensive end. A series of baskets inside cut the deficit to single digits midway through the second half, briefly shifting momentum in CPP's favor.

San Marcos answered each run with timely shooting and transition scoring, preventing the Broncos from closing the gap further. While Cal Poly Pomona continued to compete inside and generated second-chance opportunities, perimeter struggles and late execution allowed the Cougars to pull away down the stretch.

Simeth led the Broncos with a strong performance inside, but CPP was unable to overcome the early deficit as San Marcos closed out the 79-60 result.
