Broncos’ Red-Hot Start Continues With Win Over Coyotes

POMONA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball continued its strong start to the 2025-26 season with a convincing 68-52 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday night in Kellogg Arena. The Broncos improved to 14-1 overall and a perfect 9-0 in CCAA play, while also remaining undefeated at home with an 8-0 record on their home court.

Alexis Woodson led all Broncos with 15 points on an efficient 7-of-10 shooting. Hunter Hudson added 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, logging her third double-double performance in her past five games. Brielle Minor contributed 11 points, five assists, and timely free throws going 9-for-9 at the line, while Sydney Nelson chipped in 10 points for her ninth double-figure scoring performance of the season.

The No. 11 ranked Broncos took a 21-17 lead in the first quarter behind aggressive play in transition and consistent execution in the paint. The Broncos extended that edge to 34-28 at halftime, limiting CSUSB to 28 points while forcing turnovers that led to easy scoring opportunities.

The Broncos started to gain separation late in the third quarter, going up by 11 with 1:30 left in the frame. A key stretch midway through the period featured strong defensive stops followed by baskets from Woodson and Hudson, pushing the advantage to 46-37 entering the final quarter. Cal Poly Pomona then put the game away with a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring CSUSB 22-15 and building a lead as large as 16 points on the final point of the game.

As a team, the Broncos scored 38 points in the paint and 17 on the fast break, while also holding CSUSB to 33.9 percent shooting from the field. The combination of rebounding, transition offense, and defensive discipline proved decisive as Cal Poly Pomona protected its home court and remained in first place in the CCAA standings.
