SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Women's basketball won their 14
th consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, tying the longest winning streak during Head Coach
Danelle Bishop's 15-year tenure at the helm for the Broncos. With the win over the Coyotes, CPP improves to 15-1 overall on the season and a perfect 10-0 in conference play to remain atop the CCAA standings.
The Broncos weathered an early surge from the Coyotes before taking control with consistent execution on both ends of the floor. After trailing 20-18 at the end of the first quarter, a rare sight for the Broncos during their dominant winning streak, Cal Poly Pomona tightened defensively and outscored CSUSB 16-11 in the second period to take a 34-31 lead into halftime. The momentum carried into the third quarter, where the Broncos put together an 18-10 advantage, highlighted by 11 second-chance points and strong interior play, to build their largest cushion of the game.
Sydney Nelson led all scorers with 20 points, her sixth time reaching that mark this season, shooting an efficient .667 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the line while also contributing six rebounds.
Andrea Stajic added 13 points and seven rebounds, knocking down three shots beyond the arc. Stajic currently leads the team with 22 made three's this season, accounting for over a third of the team's perimeter shooting.
Kadence Lloyd finished with 14 points while going 8-for-9 from the line, while
Mydrea Moore chipped in 10 points, a team-high eight rebounds, and four blocks that anchored the Broncos' defensive effort.
As a team, Cal Poly Pomona dominated the glass with a 43-38 rebounding edge and converted 28 second-chance points, a decisive factor in the outcome. The Broncos also held CSUSB to 33.9 percent shooting from the field, the same exact percentage as Thursday night's win in Kellogg Arena. Cal Poly Pomona maintained its composure late, sealing the win at the free-throw line to extend its win streak to 14.
