Nelson’s 31 Points Leads No. 14 Broncos to First Win of 2026

SAN FRANCISCO – Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball dominated their first game of 2026, defeating San Francisco State 76-61 to remain unbeaten in conference play. The Broncos controlled the game from the opening tip, leading for nearly 40 minutes and building a lead as large as 25 points in the fourth quarter. With the win, the team improves to 10-1 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in conference play while claiming their ninth straight victory.

The No. 14 ranked Broncos set the tone early with a dominant first quarter, jumping out to a 25-9 advantage behind efficient shooting and aggressive defense. The Broncos forced multiple early turnovers and converted them into transition opportunities, establishing momentum that carried through the remainder of the contest. By halftime, CPP held a 48-27 lead after shooting over 60 percent from the field in the opening half and outscoring the Gators 30-6 in the paint.

Sydney Nelson led all scorers with a game-high 31 points, her second 30-point game of the season, finishing an efficient 13-of-19 from the field while adding four assists and three steals. Hunter Hudson was a force on the interior, posting her first career double-double with 14 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Alexis Woodson also made a strong all-around impact, contributing 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals off the bench, while Brielle Minor chipped in eight assists to help fuel the offense.

Cal Poly Pomona's defensive pressure proved to be the difference, just as it has all season, as the Broncos forced 26 San Francisco State turnovers that resulted in 32 Green & Gold points. CPP also held a commanding edge in the paint (50-12) and on the glass, collecting 46 rebounds and generating 20 second-chance points.
