CHICO, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona delivered a wire-to-wire performance on Saturday afternoon, earning a 78-66 road victory over Chico State and improving to 10-8 overall and 5-7 in CCAA play. The Broncos set the tone early, built a commanding first-half cushion, and maintained control throughout to secure a conference win away from home.
CPP dictated the pace from the opening minutes, pairing disciplined defense with efficient offense to quickly separate. The Broncos held Chico State scoreless for nearly four minutes to start the game, then steadily extended the margin behind balanced scoring and strong work on the glass. Cal Poly Pomona shot 60 percent from the field in the first half and connected on seven three-pointers, stretching the lead to as many as 25 before heading into halftime up 44-23.
Chico State responded with increased urgency after the break, trimming the deficit behind improved ball movement and transition opportunities. The Wildcats cut the lead to single digits late in the second half, but the Broncos remained composed. Timely baskets inside and consistent execution at the free-throw line allowed CPP to halt any sustained momentum and close out the game.
Jake Goldberg led the Broncos with 17 points, converting at the line and providing steady scoring throughout. Malcolm Bell added 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, anchoring the interior on both ends of the floor. Zach Broadous contributed 14 points off the bench, while Kevin Simeth and Demarreya Lewis-Cooper each finished with 10 as Cal Poly Pomona placed five players in double figures.
