Late Gamez Goal Helps CPP Earn Draw At Chico State

CHICO, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer scored twice in the final eight minutes to rally for a 2-2 tie against Chico State. The Broncos moved to 3-3-4 overall and 1-1-2 in CCAA play.

Chico State opened the scoring in the 37th minute, converting a breakaway to send CPP into halftime trailing 1-0. The Wildcats doubled their advantage in the 63rd minute, finishing a pass to take a 2-0 lead.

CPP's comeback began in the 83rd minute when Clement Badger set up Aleksandar Somov for his first goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
With 11 seconds remaining, the Broncos found the tying goal. Esteban Salais and Somov helped create an opportunity inside the box before Marvin Gamez headed the loose ball into an open net, securing the 2-2 result. The goal was Gamez's team-leading sixth of the season, while Salais collected his first assist as a Bronco.

Somov finished with a goal and an assist while placing one of his two shots on target. Gamez scored on his only attempt, and Badger recorded his first assist of the campaign. Juan Zaragoza led CPP with two shots.

After being held without a shot before halftime, the Broncos generated all eight of their attempts following the break and earned four corner kicks. CPP also controlled 64% of possession. Kaden Gust and Jack Chapman each made one save. The comeback earned CPP another crucial and hard-earned conference point.
