POMONA, Calif. –
Sydney Ferris joins the Cal Poly Pomona Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, it was announced Monday by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brian Swanson and Senior Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator Pamela Donnelly.
In this role, Ferris will work alongside the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications to tell the story of Bronco student-athletes, including updating BroncoAthletics.com with the latest news, schedules, rosters, results, statistics, and historical records. She will also assist with graphics and creative content for the department's social media platforms while managing game operations for all home events, including supervising student staff members and overseeing FloCollege livestream productions.
"Cal Poly Pomona Athletics welcomes Sydney to our team," said Donnelly. "Her experience at the University of La Verne has prepared her well for this role, and she brings a strong foundation in collegiate athletics communications. We are fortunate to have Sydney join our team, and she will quickly become a valuable asset to the department."
Ferris joins the Broncos after serving as a Sports Information Graduate Assistant at the University of La Verne since 2025. There, she supported the athletic communications efforts for 18 varsity sports, gaining experience in media relations, event management, and digital content creation. She was also selected as the Social Media Coordinator for the NCAA Division III Golf Championships in May 2026, where she provided live event coverage and digital storytelling for the NCAA throughout the national tournament.
"I was drawn to Cal Poly Pomona not only to continue growing professionally, but also to become part of such a respected Division II athletics department," said Ferris. "I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our staff, coaches, and, most importantly, our Bronco student-athletes, whose dedication and achievements make our work so rewarding and possible. I'm excited to bring the skills and experiences I developed at the University of La Verne to Cal Poly Pomona and contribute to Bronco Athletics!"
A 2024 graduate of the University of La Verne, Ferris earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations after transferring from Mt. San Antonio College. During her undergraduate career, she was heavily involved in campus leadership and student media, serving on the executive board of Phi Sigma Sigma, as Programming Chair for Order of Omega, and as Publicity Chair for the Campus Activities Board. She was also a member of the Sports Media Club and contributed to both
La Verne Magazine and the
Campus Times, covering the baseball and softball programs.
Her work was recognized with multiple honors, including first-place recognition for her magazine feature,
Telling the Story of President Nixon, and a second-place award in sports writing. Ferris was also named the University of La Verne's 2024 Public Relations Student of the Year and graduated with both departmental and university honors.
Outside of La Verne, Ferris gained collegiate summer baseball experience as a Baseball Operations Assistant with the Arroyo Seco Saints of the California Collegiate League. Her responsibilities included coordinating pregame and postgame operations, managing in-game stadium activities, serving as a liaison between the Saints and visiting teams, coordinating team transportation and assisting with administrative duties. She also contributed as a broadcaster and supported the organization's general manager with day-to-day operations.
Ferris is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Management and Leadership with an emphasis in Organizational Development at the University of La Verne.
