Gamez's Brace Leads Broncos Past Biola in Season Opener

POMONA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer opened its 2026 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Biola at Kellogg Stadium, scoring twice in the opening 12 minutes and protecting the advantage through the final whistle.

Marvin Gamez delivered both goals for the Broncos, beginning his season with a brace. He opened the scoring 4:46 into the match, finishing an assist from Jose Garcia to put CPP ahead 1-0. Gamez struck again at the 11:29 mark, converting a feed from Efren Nunez Dominguez to double the Broncos' lead.

The CPP defense made the early advantage stand. Goalkeeper Jack Chapman stopped all three shots he faced to secure a shutout in his first appearance. After Biola was held without a shot in the opening half, Chapman turned away attempts in the 56th, 85th and 89th minutes to preserve the clean sheet.

Jacob Sedano added a shot on goal in the 67th minute, while Victor Casillas and Andres Gutierrez also recorded attempts. CPP finished with five shots, placing three on target, and held a 55-45 advantage in possession. The Broncos had two corner kicks while limiting the Eagles to one.
