Broncos Fall to Sea Lions on Road

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer generated a strong second-half attack but fell 2-0 to Point Loma on Saturday afternoon at the PLNU Soccer Field.

The Broncos (1-1) controlled several areas of the match, finishing with advantages in shots (13-8), corner kicks (9-1) and possession (53%-47%). CPP applied consistent pressure after halftime, recording 10 of its 13 shots and earning seven corner kicks over the final 45 minutes.

Nico Sanchez led the Broncos' early attack, placing both of his attempts on goal during the opening 24 minutes. Marvin Gamez added another shot on target in the 31st minute, but Point Loma goalkeeper Jeremy Caringella stopped all three first-half opportunities.

Point Loma broke through for the first time in the 41st minute, sending CPP into halftime trailing 1-0. The Sea Lions struck again in the 56th minute.

The Broncos continued to push forward despite the deficit. Efren Nunez Dominguez finished with two shots, while Ethan Fisher, Clement Badger, Roy Zaltz, Omar Garcia, Esteban Salais, Abram Araujo and Frank Stampfli each contributed an attempt. The Broncos produced eight shots after Point Loma's second goal and conceded no corner kicks in the match's final period.

Goalkeeper Jack Chapman played all 90 minutes and recorded one save. The Broncos' defense limited the Sea Lions to only three shots on goal and eight total attempts.
