Fisher, Gamez Lead Men's Soccer to Comeback Win Over Western Oregon

POMONA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer rallied from an early deficit to defeat Western Oregon 2-1 at Kellogg Stadium, improving to 2-1 on the season.

Western Oregon opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but the Broncos were responsive, placing five of their nine first-half shots on goal.

CPP evened the score in the 30th minute when Andres Gutierrez delivered a corner kick to Ethan Fisher in the box, who headed the ball into the net for his first goal as a Bronco. The score sent the teams into the half tied at 1-1.

Marvin Gamez completed the comeback in the 61st minute, converting a penalty kick to give Cal Poly Pomona its first lead of the night. The goal was Gamez's third of the season. He paced the Broncos with four shots and three attempts on target.

Goalkeeper Jack Chapman helped make the advantage stand, recording four saves across 90 minutes. Three of his stops came in the second half as the Wolves pressed. Chapman denied shots in the 58th, 69th and 73rd minutes, helping CPP protect its one-goal lead and earn the victory.

The Broncos finished with 14 shots, placing six on target, and controlled 57 percent of the possession. Fisher anchored the back line alongside Frank Stampfli, Jacob Sedano and Liam McFarlane, while Daniel Gutierrez played all 90 minutes in the midfield. Efren Nunez Dominguez added two shots, including one on goal, and Gutierrez recorded an attempt as CPP secured its second win in three matches.
