Sanchez's First Goal of Season Earns Broncos Road Draw at St. Edwards

AUSTIN, Texas - Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer battled St. Edward's to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night, moving the Broncos' record to 2-1-2.

After a scoreless half, St. Edwards broke through in the 57th minute, but CPP answered quickly, needing less than four minutes to pull even. Nico Sanchez fired an unassisted shot into the net at the 60 minute mark. The goal was Sanchez's first of the season.

The Broncos continued to apply pressure following the equalizer, generating eight shots over the final 30 minutes. Marvin Gamez led CPP's attack with a match-high seven attempts, placing three on target. Jacob Ramirez registered three shots with two on goal, while Daniel Gutierrez and Sanchez also finished with three attempts apiece.

CPP outshot St. Edward's 21-16 and placed eight attempts. The Broncos also controlled 54% of possession and earned four corner kicks. After producing eight shots in the first half, CPP increased its offensive pressure with 13 attempts following the break.

Goalkeeper Jack Chapman made five crucial saves while playing all 90 minutes. Four of his stops came during the final 20 minutes, including saves in the 87th and 88th minutes that preserved the tie. CPP's defensive effort limited the Hilltoppers to six shots on goal as the Broncos remained unbeaten in four of their first five matches.
