Gallardo, Radke Lead No. 2 Broncos Past No. 25 Cal State LA in CCAA Opener

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer opened CCAA play with a commanding 2-0 road victory over No. 25 Cal State LA at University Stadium, improving to 4-0-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action.

The Broncos remained unbeaten through six matches after delivering a dominant performance in the nationally ranked matchup and CCAA Game of the Week. CPP outshot the Golden Eagles 12-3, placed eight attempts on goal and maintained 57% of possession.

Charlie Gallardo opened the scoring in the 26th minute after Angelina Santana sent a cross towards the box. Sabine Ramos directed the ball with a quick touch to Gallardo, who fired it into the net for her second goal of the season. The strike marked Gallardo's second goal in as many matches and gave CPP a 1-0 lead.

Carly Radke doubled the lead just ten minutes later, converting Bailey Guerrero's assist for her team-leading third goal of the season. Radke paced the attack with four shots and placed three on target, helping the Broncos carry a 2-0 advantage into halftime.

Santana made an impact on both ends, recording the assist on Gallardo's goal and finishing with three shots, including two on target.

Parker LaMont and the CPP defense protected the lead. LaMont stopped Cal State LA's only shot on goal in the 60th minute to secure her fourth shutout of the season. Holly Wilbanks, Georgia Rink, Mikaela Marr, Santana and the rest of the defensive unit limited the Golden Eagles to three shots as the Broncos earned their fourth victory and began conference play with three points.
