Ramirez Scores First Goal as Broncos Tie Vanguard, 1-1

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer earned a 1-1 draw against Vanguard on Saturday at the VU Soccer Field, moving to 2-1-1 on the season.

The Broncos wasted little time taking control, as Jacob Ramirez scored the opening goal just 97 seconds into the match. The goal was Ramirez's first of the season and as a Bronco, while Marvin Gamez collected his first assist of the 2026 campaign to give CPP an early 1-0 advantage.

Vanguard answered in the 11th minute to level the match at 1-1. 

CPP produced five shots after halftime. Gamez put two shots on goal and Abram Araujo added one, while Clement Badger, Jose Garcia and Nico Sanchez each contributed a second-half attempt.
Goalkeeper Jack Chapman played all 90 minutes and made a save in the 80th minute to preserve the tie. Liam McFarlane went the distance for a Broncos defense that limited Vanguard to two shots on goal despite facing 11 total attempts.

CPP controlled 56% of possession and placed four of its seven shots on target.

The Broncos will travel to Austin, Texas to continue non-conference play. They'll face St. Edwards at 5 PM PT on September 10, and Midwestern State at 5 PM PT on September 12.
