POMONA, Calif. - Featured among the best in Division II, Cal Poly Pomona's
Greg Kamansky,
Mitchel Anderson and
Terrence Drisdom continue to receive top honors for the 2012-13 season in which the Broncos swept the conference's regular season and tournament titles.
In the April issue of the
Division II Bulletin, Anderson was included on the publication's NCAA D-II All-American Third Team while Drisdom received All-American Honorable Mention accolades. This marks the first time in program history that two Broncos have earned All-American selection in the same year.
Drisdom is the seventh player in program history to receive the honor, joining Bill Leedom (1962-63), Paul Scranton (1965-66), Terry Ross (1990-91), Jeff Bonds (2004-05), Larry Gordon (2008-09) and Anderson (2012-13).
"Terrence is a very smart, athletic player and he really elevated his game this year," said Kamansky, the Broncos' head coach of 13 years.
On Monday, Kamansky was featured as one of the finalists for the 2013
Clarence "Big House" Gaines National Coach of the Year. The award is presented annually to the top division II men's basketball coach. One of the true legends of all-time, Clarence Gaines retired from Winston-Salem State University in 1993 with a record of 828-446. The 2013 award will be presented on April 5 at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet in Atlanta, site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.
In late March, Kamansky earned National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)
West Region Coach of the Year selection for the third time in his career. This past season, Kamansky raised his career totals to 270-110 for a winning percentage of .711.
A Temecula, Calif., native, Anderson finished with 1,433 points and 180 steals through his four-year collegiate career, ranking third all-time for the program in both statistics. He helped the Broncos capture a national title in 2010 during his freshman campaign and then as a senior, Anderson guided CPP to a 28-3 overall record as the team swept the conference's regular season and tournament titles.
Anderson is now the school's leader in three-pointers, knocking down 190 while at CPP. Earlier in March, Anderson picked up California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)
Most Valuable Player honors for both the regular season and tournament. Late last month, Anderson was featured on the
NABC Division II All-America Team.
Drisdom provided the Broncos with consistently stellar all-around play this past season during a breakthrough junior campaign. A Corona, Calif., native, Drisdom averaged 13 points per game to rank second on the team in scoring while proving to be CPP's top free throw shooter at 82 percent.
He ranked first in the CCAA for steals per game with an average of 2.0 while finishing in the top 10 for assists as well. Drisdom tallied a career-high 26 points on March 15, leading the Broncos to a 69-61 first-round win over Chico State in the NCAA Tournament. In late March, Drisdom earned a spot on the
NABC All-West Region First Team.
