Harvey Accepts Coaching Position at Cal State L.A.

During Isabelle Harvey's seven years at Cal Poly Pomona, the Broncos compiled marks of 59-55-17 overall while going 41-51-14 in the CCAA.
POMONA, Calif. - After guiding Cal Poly Pomona to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2001 this past season, Isabelle Harvey announced Friday that she has accepted the women's soccer head coaching position at Cal State L.A.

"I would like to thank University President Dr. J. Michael Ortiz, Vice President for Student Affairs Doug Freer, Director of Athletics Brian Swanson, Associate A.D. Tracee Passeggi, and the Bronco family for the opportunity of being the head coach for the last seven years," Harvey said. "This has been a great experience and I can't thank my players enough for giving me all of their effort and commitment throughout the years. I also want to thank my assistant Jim Barlow for consistent loyalty and drive."

During Harvey's seven years at CPP, the Broncos compiled marks of 59-55-17 overall while going 41-51-14 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

"The women's soccer program has been highly competitive on the field, performed admirably in the classroom and also has been highly instrumental in our community outreach," Director of Athletics Brian Swanson said. "We thank Coach Harvey for her commitment to our student-athletes and wish her well in her new role."

Harvey began her coaching career at Cal State L.A., where she served as interim head coach in 2002 for the men's and women's soccer teams before holding the top assistant position for both programs in the 2003 and 2004 campaigns.

Through Harvey's tenure with the Broncos, 24 of the program's student-athletes have earned All-CCAA honors. At the conclusion of the memorable 2012 season, Samantha Stiles, Veronica Ramos, Cindy Paez and Kristin Mihara received All-CCAA Second Team selection while Megan Kisslan was tabbed as the conference's Freshman of the Year.

In late October, the Broncos captured a 2-0 win over Cal State L.A. on Senior Day. The victory extended the team's undefeated streak to a school-record 11 games. From Sept. 23 through Oct. 28, CPP went 8-0-3 while outscoring opponents 25-6. The Broncos finished 10-6-3 overall and 8-4-3 in CCAA action after suffering a first-round loss in the NCAA Tournament to Western Washington.

Harvey, a native of Cap-Rouge, Quebec, Canada, had an outstanding playing career, both at the collegiate level and also internationally. She played at USC from 1996 through 2000 and is the only player in the program's history to earn All-America honors all four seasons. She led the Trojans to the NCAA playoffs three times in those four years.

As a member of the Canadian National Team at the 1999 Women's World Cup, Harvey started all three games for Canada and registered two assists. She currently ranks 13th in Canadian history with 44 international caps and most recently represented Canada at the 2004 Four Nations Tournament in China.

On April 12, 2011, Quebec honored Harvey as the region's "Athlete of the Century." Association Régionale Soccer Québec distinguished Harvey with the Centennial Medal as one of five leading figures to influence the development of soccer in the region, with Harvey being recognized as a player.

Through Harvey's eight  years as a head coach - seven at Cal Poly Pomona and one at Cal State L.A. - she owns marks of 64-68-17 overall and 44-62-14 in conference play. Harvey will begin her duties at CSULA on July 1.

The Broncos' 2013 squad, which will feature star seniors Samantha Stiles, Sarah Rohman and Kristin Mihara, will start its season in early September. A national search for Harvey's successor will begin immediately.
