POMONA, Calif. – Having reached No. 14 in the national poll to match the program's best-ever ranking, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team heads north to take on the Wildcats of Chico State on Friday. The game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
The record-setting Broncos hold a 7-0-1 overall mark and head up to Chico with a 2-0 tally in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
Chico State has accumulated a 5-2-1 record overall while owning an 0-2 mark in league action.
Junior forward
Christian Gonzalez Diaz leads the way for the CPP offense with six goals. Another imposing force on the Broncos offense is another junior forward,
Alexander Turkson, who has tallied three goals and two assists.
The Broncos have proven that they understand the importance of teamwork and that's certainly evident in senior midfielder
Daniel Garcia Jr., who holds seven of the squad's 20 assists.
In goal, the Broncos have
Fernando Pablo Quevedo, a junior from Santander, Spain. Pablo Quevedo has a .964 save percentage as only one goal has been allowed thus far in 2014. He has registered 27 saves and seven shutouts in the net.
After last Sunday's 2-0 win at UC San Diego, head coach
Yossi Raz said: "The recent CCAA schedule has been a very difficult one, and has tested the character of the team. We had an excellent result in one of the toughest environments in Division II. We are looking forward to the upcoming game against Chico State."
In the all-time series, the Wildcats have a slight lead over the Broncos, with CPP trailing 8-12-1.
