Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Broncos Secure 2-0 Win Against Dominguez

POMONA, Calif. – The undefeated streak remains as the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team topped the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros 2-0 on Sunday.

"Today was another great testament for how mentally tough this group of young men are," said head Coach Yossi Raz. "We traveled to Chico and played away then traveled back and competed against Dominguez, who has been playing extremely well in recent games. To do that and then get a result in the solace of our home field is exciting."

Upon securing the win, CPP now tallies an overall 9-0-1 record and a perfect 4-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.

The loss for the Toros drops them to 4-6-1 overall, and an even 2-2 in the CCAA.

In the 26th minute of the game Alexander Turkson added another goal to his tally, as his shot in the upper left corner of the net marked his fourth of the season. He was assisted by Luis Najera Jr.

CPP found another member of its squad adding his name to the goal scorer list. Aaron Macedo scored his first goal in Bronco gold and green in the 40th minute as Daniel Garcia Jr. and Jesus Tamayo set him up to send a beauty of a header into the back of the net.

Garcia Jr. is leading the CCAA in number of assists with his eight, and Tamayo and his six are good for third place.

"It's great to me to see how they mature all the time," said Raz. "We didn't play great the whole game, but we managed to dig deep and go through it and move on with another W, which is always exciting to see."

The CCAA save percentage leader, Fernando Pablo Quevedo, collected another four saves and boosts his number up to 32 on the year, while only allowing two against him. He holds a .941 save percentage, and has registered eight shutouts in the net this season.

Raz said, "I thought that at the core of our defense today was Jose Ortega and Leonel Espinoza, who were unbelievable. They were able to manage all the mismatches that Dominguez threw at us, and they were able to back up everybody and cover the holes that others left. Those two are essential to the unit and I can't say enough great things about them."

The Broncos will return to play on Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Kellogg Field as the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game will be held. Wear pink to show your support.
