Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Broncos Topped by Point Loma Saturday, 62-60

POMONA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team suffered a tough 62-60 loss to Point Loma on Saturday in non-conference action.

The Sea Lions' Hayden Lescault knocked down a layup with three seconds to play and on the other end, a desperation halfcourt attempt from CPP's Daniel Rodriguez rattled off the back rim and out.

With the result, Point Loma improves to 5-0 on the season while the Broncos dropped to 3-2. Jordan Faison and Terrence Drisdom led the CPP offense on Saturday, combining for 30 of the team's 60 points. Faison totaled 18 points and eight rebounds, while Drisdom finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and a team-high four assists.

The Broncos dominated on the boards, grabbing the game's first 11 rebounds before the Sea Lions could pull down their first. CPP finished with a 38-28 edge in rebounding. Barry Bell bolstered the Broncos' defensive effort, collecting four of the squad's 10 steals.

Point Loma proved to be efficient from three-point range, going 9-for-19 beyond the arc for a 47.4-percent mark. Sam Okhotin knocked down five triples en route to 17 points.

CPP jumped out to a seven-point lead early, as a Ryan Hall three-pointer followed by a Faison layup put the Broncos ahead 19-12. A Point Loma layup by Junior Morgan pulled it back to a one-possession game as CPP took a 31-28 lead into the break.

The Broncos held an advantage for 68 percent of the game but after another Morgan basket put Point Loma ahead 52-50 with 6:22 to play, the visiting squad started to build momentum in its favor.

CPP trailed 60-56 heading into the final two minutes but back-to-back buckets from Faison and Drisdom tied the game at 60-60. On its final possession, Point Loma used most of the game clock before Lescault dropped in the layup for the deciding basket.

On the Broncos' inbound pass, Rodriguez caught it on the run and made a nice halfcourt attempt. It landed just a few inches too far though, rattling off the back rim and bouncing out.

CPP will return to action on Friday with the resumption of conference play. The Broncos will play a road game at Cal State East Bay with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
