Broncos Defeat Otters 63-54 In Seaside

SEASIDE, Calif. – In somewhat of a nail-biter, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team secured the 63-54 victory over the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters on Saturday night.

The win brings the Broncos to a season tally of 5-2, while earning a 2-1 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

CSUMB, with the loss owns a 4-3 mark in the 2014-15 season, while carrying a 1-1 record in conference.

Senior Terrence Drisdom and junior Jordan Faison led CPP with 19 points apiece, while each carrying over a .630 shooting percentage from the field. Drisdom went 7-for-11 with five of his six free throws falling. Faison went 8-for-12 from the field, and 3-for-5 from the line.

Ever the team-player, Barry Bell dished out three assists, earned eight points, and had two steals en route to the CPP victory. Daniel Rodriguez collected 10 boards on the night, and added two steals and four points himself.

Despite the Broncos putting up the first points on a jumper by Faison and a layup by Bell, then quickly adding four more points to the Otters' two, CSUMB turned its slow start into an improved offensive effort.

The hometown squad went on a 10-2 run that ended up forcing CPP to play catchup. With the next few points going back-and-forth, the two teams were playing neck-and-neck until CSUMB put together a six-point streak heading into halftime to give them the 31-26 lead.

As the Broncos took the floor again in the second half, a newfound vigor was apparent as Drisdom dropped a layup, Faison put in a free throw, and Bell's shot from beyond the arc found the basket. The Broncos gained the lead 32-31 with the three.

Yet again, baskets began to fall like a pendulum, CPP, CSUMB, CPP, CSUMB.

With 3:06 on the clock, the Otters put down their last point. Rodriguez added a good layup, then six points from Drisdom fell, and sealed CSUMB's fate, with the Broncos leading 63-54 to the buzzer.

As a team, the Broncos earned a .556 shooting percentage from the field, going 25-for-45. The nationally-recognized defense posted 37 boards to the Otters' 24. Both teams earned decent leads, with CPP's largest lead being the nine points that they finished the game ahead, and the Otters' being an eight-point advantage just before halftime.

The Broncos will return to action in Kellogg Gym on Dec. 15, with a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m. against the Bristol Bears.
