Undefeated Broncos Host Azusa Pacific

POMONA, Calif. - Coming off of an exhilarating overtime 1-0 win against nationally-ranked Cal State LA, the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona will return to Kellogg Field to duke it out with Azusa Pacific this Thursday at 7 p.m.

Head coach Yossi Raz's Broncos challenged the Golden Eagles for 92 minutes of scoreless action in the brutal heat at Jesse Owens Field before Alexander Turkson ended it in overtime to net CPP its second win on the season.

"Cal State L.A. is a very tough team and it was great to see our guys go into that environment with the right attitude," Raz said after the game. "I am very proud of our team's collective effort today."

Turkson, a junior forward from Cape Coast, Ghana, has started all three games for the Broncos this year and has had two of the team's four goals, with the others in Christian Gonzalez Diaz's name. Those goals have helped give CPP a 2-0-1 record on the season.

The APU Cougars have defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills and Simon Fraser for their 2-0 record, edging both teams by a single goal.

History dictates this to be an exciting matchup as CPP and APU have split the series with seven wins apiece, along with one tie.

The Broncos will finish off the week on Saturday as they travel to Riverside to take on the Lancers of Cal Baptist. CBU holds a 1-2-1 record on the season and have yet to play a PacWest conference match. The Lancers' two losses came in overtime to fellow California Collegiate Athletic Associate (CCAA) teams Cal State Dominguez Hills and Sonoma State.

Cal Poly Pomona holds a 3-0-1 all-time record over the Lancers in their series play. Saturday's game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
