Pep Rally Features Fall Student-Athletes

POMONA, Calif. - On Tuesday at Kellogg Gym, Cal Poly Pomona Intercollegiate Athletics partnered with University Housing Services to host the Welcome Week Spirit Rally in Kellogg Gym.

The event featured an unveiling of the new athletics identity with a special introduction from University President J. Michael Ortiz and his wife Betty. Baseball head coach Randy Betten and women's basketball student-athlete Ariel Marsh also spoke about the tradition and spirit of the Broncos' athletic teams.

After the Kellogg Gym center court logo was revealed to the new students, the large crowd watched a one-minute video presentation about the athletics rebranding. After that, the Cal Poly Pomona pep band led the students in a spirited chant. Also during the event, the Bronco Cheer Squad and Broncettes put together great performances.

Before the logo reveal portion of the pep rally, one representative from each of the fall sports teams talked about their team's success so far in 2014. The group of five student-athlete speakers included Ian Trantow of men's soccer, Alison Sauve of women's soccer, Lauren Jones of volleyball, Brandon Haugen of men's cross country and Lizette Huerta of women's cross country.

The busy week of student activities continues Friday with the BroncoFusion concert taking place at the same time as the Broncos' soccer doubleheader at Kellogg Field. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. with the women's game first.
