Undefeated CPP Meets Coyotes in CCAA Opener

POMONA, Calif. - The undefeated Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team, ranked at No. 22 in the latest national poll, heads into the conference opener Friday at 7 p.m. with a pair of record-breaking streaks.

The Broncos will host Cal State San Bernardino at Kellogg Field Friday as part of "Pack the Stands" night. CPP students wearing a gold t-shirt and sitting in the student section are eligible to win prizes, including sunglasses and Golden Spoon.

After defeating Point Loma 1-0 Tuesday, CPP finds itself once again adding two new records to the books. The win improved the Broncos to a program-best start of 5-0-1. Along with that, they increased their consecutive-shutout number to six games - also a school record.

The Broncos remain the only team in NCAA Division II that has not been scored on. BroncoAthletics.com and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week Fernando Pablo Quevedo tallied up two more saves, bringing his 2014 save total to 23.

Tuesday's 1-0 home win over Point Loma featured senior midfielder Abiel Coronado scoring his first goal of the year in the waning minutes of the game.

About the upcoming conference opener, head coach Yossi Raz said: "We know that the CCAA is a whole new and different ballgame and we are looking forward to competing against the undefeated San Bernardino team this Friday."

Cal State San Bernardino holds a flawless 4-0 record to date and an all-time 24-17-10 tally over the Broncos. After Friday's game, CPP turns its attention to an 11:30 a.m. Sunday road matchup at UC San Diego. The Tritons currently hold a 5-2 record.
