POMONA, Calif. - With Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball tied for first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Broncos will host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday for "Coaches vs. Cancer Night" at Kellogg Gym.
The night will be held in honor and memory of all those who have battled with cancer, so head to Kellogg Gym and wear pink to show your support. Tipoff for the the men's basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
Looking back to Dec. 6, the Broncos topped the Otters at the Kelp Bed in the Otter Sports Center. In that matchup,
Jordan Faison and
Terrence Drisdom both posted 19 points en route to the CPP 63-54 victory.
On the floor for the Broncos and seemingly a fixture on the CCAA leaderboard is Drisdom. The senior heads up the conference leaderboard in points per game, field goals per game and steals.
Barry Bell measures up at second place in the conference with 33 steals and ranks third with 1.9 steals per game.
As a team, the Broncos have shot 48 percent from the field, providing them with the No. 1 spot. CPP also owns the top spot in the defensive rebound category. On the national leaderboard, the Broncos rank at No. 2 nationally in defense.
After Friday, the Broncos will focus on Saturday's matchup against Cal State East Bay. The Pioneers have tallied a 4-14 mark on the season, with a 2-10 standing in the CCAA.
The Pioneers' leading scorer is Jacari Whitfield, who has put down 165 points. Jack Pasquini has provided CSUEB with a squad leading 9.3 points per game.
In the all-time series between the Broncos and the Pioneers, CPP holds a 19-8 advantage, including an 83-52 victory earlier in this season.
Saturday's game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Kellogg Gym.
