@cppmsoccer Ranks 2nd in West Region Poll

POMONA, Calif. – With a No. 2 ranking in the West and a No. 17 ranking nationally, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team aims to finish strong with four regular season games remaining.

The first two of those four contests will be on the road this week. On Friday, the Broncos challenge Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside at 3 p .m. Then on Sunday, CPP plays a road match at San Francisco State at 2 p.m.

The Broncos are 8-1-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), totaling 17 points and ranking third in the league standings. Friday's opponent – CSUMB – is in eighth place at 4-5 in conference play. So far in 2015, SFSU – Sunday's opponent – has maintained a league record of 1-5-3.

This week, junior midfielder Mathew Perez became the third Bronco to earn CCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors. Last week, he helped CPP pick up wins over Cal State San Bernardino and Chico State as he tallied one goal and two assists. Earlier this year, Sergi Monso and Fernando Pablo Quevedo received the same recognition.

The Broncos' defense continues to excel in 2015. During conference games, CPP owns the second-lowest goals against average in the league at a mark of 0.82. The leader is Cal State L.A. at 0.43.
