Broncos Rout NDNU 84-46 in Season Opener!

AZUSA, Calif. – In the 2015-16 season opener, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team routed the Argonauts of Notre Dame de Namur 84-46. The matchup was part of the four-team, two-day Azusa Pacific Tournament.

CPP had three members of its squad with double-digit points in the contest as they were led by Daylan Lawrence who racked up game-high 19 points. Jordan Faison and Barry Bell secured 16 and 12 points, respectively. Chris Sullivan put together an impressive all-around performance, leading the squad in rebounds with eight and assists with six.

Bell, one of the Green and Gold's seniors this season, opened his final campaign with a 6-for-6 showing in the contest including one shot and bucket from beyond the arc. The CPP team shot 58.6 percent from the field, besting the Argonauts who shot just 39 percent.

Lawrence, as he led the Broncos with 19 points, sank 8-of-13 shots including a 50% shooting from beyond the three-point line at 3-for-6. The Green and Gold also secured 12 steals in the match, tripling NDNU's four. Scott Hastings, a newcomer to the Broncos' squad, also provided the game with its only block.

The game started out with a 5-0 Argonaut lead as they had a pair of jumpers and a free throw fall. CPP earned the next point as Bell provided the Green and Gold with their first basket of the 2015-16 regular season.

With the score at 12-10 in the Argonaut's favor, Lawrence made his first three of the game and gave the game its final lead change. Mere seconds later, the games' point leader sank another long ball and put CPP up 16-12. After NDNU answered with a three of their own, the Green and Gold went on a 11-3 run that put them up 30-18.

From that point, almost every shot that the Argonauts made was answered by at least a pair of CPP shots. At halftime the score stood at 42-23 in the Broncos' favor.

Entering the second half, the first few points were for the Broncos, as a jumper by Quentin Taylor provided two of his seven points in the contest. On the next possession, Faison was fouled and knocked down the free throw for the team's 46th point, doubling the Argonaut's 23.

The Broncos went on an 11-0 run between the marks of 9:32 and 5:38 to lead NDNU 75-38. In the final stretch of the game, CPP scored nine more points and the Argonauts tallied eight. The final result of the contest was an 84-46 rout in favor of the Green and Gold.

The Broncos, now 1-0 on the season, will continue play on Saturday as they have a 7:30 p.m. start against the host school Azusa Pacific. CPP will be looking to avenge last season's NCAA tournament loss to the Cougars.
