Broncos Top APU 79-72 in Azusa! Start Year 2-0

AZUSA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team is starting the 2015-16 season off right. After Friday's win against Notre Dame de Namur, the program topped the Azusa Pacific Cougars 79-72 on Saturday.
 
The game marked the second game of the Azusa Pacific Tournament for the Broncos. The CPP squad will continue on to play Point Loma on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. start against the Sea Lions on their home court in San Diego.
 
CPP was aided in Saturday's victory by Jordan Faison and Jeremy Dennis, collectively they tallied 46 points with Faison racking up 24 and Dennis recording 22. Faison, one of CPP's seniors, sank 11-of-16 shots taken including both of his free throw attempts.
 
Dennis was 5-for-6 from the field with 100% shooting on three pointers, sinking 4-of-4 of his long-distance shots. Freshman Jordan Ogundiran also provided the Green and Gold with double-digit points as he racked up 10 of his own on a 3-for-5 performance with a bucket from beyond the arc.
 
Faison also led the CPP squad with nine total rebounds in the match, seven of them being of the defensive kind. Every other member of the CPP squad recorded points in the contest and all but one had a board. Dennis provided his teammates with the matches' only block and Barry Bell, Ogundiran, Chris Sullivan, and Daylan Lawrence rallied together for six steals.
 
The Broncos recorded 41 of their points in the first half with a team shooting percentage of 58.3. Dennis sank all three of his shots from the field, each of them being worth three points. He also sank six-of-six free throws with Ogundiran sinking the team's other three for a 100% team accuracy from the line.
 
In the first half, the Green and Gold limited the Cougars to 33 points on a 43.5% shooting.
 
The game's second half saw CPP post their final 38 points, shooting 46.7% and sinking 8-of-10 shots from the line. Faison recorded 14 of his points in the second half, leading both teams in the points category.
