Broncos Chalk Up Win #5, Top Mustangs 66-46

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team remains undefeated as they topped the Mustangs of The Master's College 66-46 on Tuesday. The result improves CPP to an overall mark of 5-0 on the season with just one more non-conference game to play before the start of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.

In Tuesday's game, the Broncos had many solid performances. Three members of the squad earned double-digit points with Jordan Faison leading the way at 17 points on a 7-for-11 showing. The senior also led the team with eight rebounds.

Also with double-digit scoring displays were Jeremy Dennis and Barry Bell. Dennis sank 5-of-11 shots with three free throws en route to 13 points of his own and Bell was accurate on 5-of-9 shots with a pair of free throws for his 12 points.

Every member of the Green and Gold that saw time on the court in the contest secured at least two rebounds as the team pulled down a total of 38, besting the Mustangs by six.

CPP proved to be the more accurate team on the court as they had a 42.7 shooting percentage. The Broncos' stellar defense, besides just limiting the TMC offense to 46 points, did so while only allowed 30.2% of their shots to find their mark.

The Broncos were also able to grab 12 steals and three blocks.

At the end of the first half, the Green and Gold were leading the Master's 24-19. The first half was the less accurate half for CPP as 30.8% of their shots found their mark. They did however sink 8-of-12 free throws in the game's first period.

In the second half the Broncos improved their shooting accuracy to 51.5%, sinking 17-of-33 shots from the field and 7-of-8 from the line.

With 7:03 to play in the first half, the game saw its final tie at 14-14. Barry Bell dropped in a layup that gave CPP a lead that they would carry through the rest of the game. Try as they might, the Mustangs were unable to pull even with the visitors to Bross Court.

The Broncos will return to Kellogg Arena for a 2:00 p.m. against Young Harris on Saturday.

After the Broncos play the Mountain Lions, they will remain on their home stand as the Cal State LA Golden Eagles will challenge CPP for the start of conference play. The game will be the second of a double-header as the Bronco women will first play CSULA at 5:30 p.m. prior to the start of the men's game.
