POMONA, Calif. – After earning their second-consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament title on Sunday, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team has earned the title of the No. 1 team in the West.
With the NCAA Selection Show featuring the CPP squad as the No. 1 seed, the Green and Gold have been picked to serve as a host school for the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament.
The tournament's First Round game will be between fourth-seeded Stanislaus State and fifth-seeded Cal State L.A. Those two CCAA squads will play at Kellogg Field on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Broncos will play the winner on Saturday with a 7 p.m. game. CPP has topped both CSULA and Stanislaus twice so far this season. Both teams were blanked by the Green and Gold during the regular season. CPP then beat the Golden Eagles 3-2 in double overtime in the semifinal round of the CCAA Tournament. Beyond that, the Broncos blanked the Warriors 2-0 in the tournament's championship match.
The Broncos have thus far earned a 13-2-3 record on the season, which included an 8-2-2 mark in conference play that gave them the No. 2 seed in the CCAA tourney.
CPP men's soccer is making history this season as their berth in the NCAA postseason marks just the second time in program history that the team has moved past the CCAA tournament.
