Broncos Start CCAA Play Against SoCal Rivals

POMONA, Calif. – After a 6-0 start through non-conference play, the nationally-ranked Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team begins California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action this week at Kellogg Arena.

The matchups pit CPP against two of its local rivals, with Cal State L.A. coming to town on Wednesday and then Cal State Dominguez Hills serving as the Broncos' opponent on Saturday. Both days will feature doubleheaders as the women's game starts at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game follows at 7:30 p.m.

Through the month of November, CPP collected two wins each week. Most recently, the Broncos topped The Master's College on the road before returning home to take down Young Harris last Saturday.

At the NCAA Division II level, CPP owns the top-rated defense while allowing just 56 points per game. Fellow CCAA program UC San Diego is at No. 2 on the defense leaderboard, limiting opponents to a 57.4 scoring average. In this week's rankings for D-II, the Broncos hold the No. 5 spot nationally while being featured at No. 1 in the West Region for the D2SIDA poll.

Wednesday's opponent – Cal State L.A. – owns an 0-6 record so far this season. The Golden Eagles held their own against Point Loma last Saturday though, falling by a narrow margin of 93-84. Senior guard Joshua Munzon is the team's leading scorer, averaging 16.8 points per game.

Saturday's challenger – Cal State Dominguez – is 5-2 so far this season. The Toros have collected a pair of impressive wins within the D-II West Region as well, topping Alaska Anchorage and Stanislaus State in the last 10 days.

CPP senior forward Jordan Faison, a preseason All-American, has put together an impressive series of performances for the Broncos. He's averaging 18.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, including a 65.8 shooting percentage from the field. The scoring average puts Faison at No. 3 on the CCAA leaderboard. Starting the year at No. 11 on the Broncos' all-time points list, Faison has now moved up to the No. 8 spot with 1,205 career points.

Senior guard Barry Bell is also off to a strong start through the first six games. He's racked up 25 assists for an average of 4.2 per game, with that mark putting him fifth among CCAA players. Bell totaled nine assists last Saturday in the win over Young Harris, setting a new career high in that category.

Donation Drive
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC/BAA) is putting on their First Annual Inland Valley Humane Society Donation Drive in an effort to help the Inland Valley Humane Society collect items from their "wish list." SAAC will be collecting donations at this Wednesday's men's and women's basketball games. To view the IVHSC Wish List, access this PDF.

Parking Situation
The nearest parking lot available to Kellogg Arena is Lot B. To get to Lot B, use the following address in Google Maps: "660 Kellogg Drive, Pomona, CA." Turning left into the parking lot, turn left again and follow the road as it curves around toward the east side of the soccer field.
