CPP Back in First Place After Overtime Win

SAN FRANCISCO - With an overtime 64-57 victory over San Francisco State on Saturday, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team is once again in a tie for first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Coupled with the Bronco win was a loss for Chico State at the hands of Humboldt State. Those two results have produced a two-team tie at the top between the Broncos and Wildcats. Both teams now have 14 wins and four losses on the season with four conference games let to play.

The Broncos' season has proven to be a successful one thus far, as CPP has secured an 18-5 record. SFSU now holds a 9-13 overall tally, complete with seven wins and 11 losses in CCAA play.

Jordan Faison provided 13 points for CPP on a 6-for-9 performance from the floor, as he was also the lone Bronco with a double-double as he pulled down 12 rebounds for his second double-double on the season.

Terrence Drisdom led the Green and Gold with 18 points in the contest, Daniel Rodriguez sank three from beyond the arc en route to his 13 points, and Barry Bell sank 5-of-8 baskets to add 11 points for the Broncos.

Drisdom was a spotless 8-for-8 from the free throw line and secured three steals and a block. Bell, Faison, Chad Haysbert, and Jordan Finn also registered a steal on the night.

The Broncos outrebounded the home team 34-25. Neither team committed many turnovers, with only a one turnover difference in the game. CPP also posted 12 second chance points in the game, which bested the Gators by seven.

In the contest, both teams came to play and brought their defenses to match. The largest run the Gators went on was six points. The Broncos managed to secure an eight-point spree as their top mark.

At the half mark, the game score sat at 27-24 in CPP's favor. Just minutes into the second have the score again was tied, and the two went back-and-forth, trading leads a total of seven times in the matchup. With a layup by Terrence Drisdom at the 1:15 mark in the second period, the score once again was tied and was sent to overtime.
In the OT period, the Broncos outscored SFSU 11-4 and walked away with a 64-57 final score.

The Broncos will return to action next week as they host the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles on Friday night. It will be the final home-stand at Kellogg Gym for CPP and Friday will mark Faculty and Staff Appreciation night for Bronco Athletics as the department honors and thanks the members of Cal Poly Pomona who go above and beyond in their support for CPP Athletics.
