CPP Enters Final Home Week Ranked 5th in West

POMONA, Calif. - With a recent ranking at the No. 5 spot in the first official NCAA Division II West Region ranking, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team will return to Kellogg Gym for the last homestand of the year. Friday night will feature the Broncos hosting Cal State L.A. and on Saturday, CPP will host Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Friday will mark the annual Broncos' Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, as the CPP athletic department will honor those who go above and beyond to assist athletics, student-athletes, and the Bronco Athletics staff.

Heading into Friday's game against Cal State L.A., the Broncos hold an 18-5 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). That conference tally puts CPP in a tie for first place with Chico State.

The Golden Eagles have secured seven wins and 11 losses in conference play and a 9-13 overall record in 2014-15. Last time the two squads met, the Broncos were bested by just a single basket as CSULA went on to win 58-56.

Ever the stat leader, Terrence Drisdom leads the Green and Gold with 16.1 points per game, and has sank 132-of-252 from the field, good for a 52.4 shooting percentage. Jordan Faison, who sits just behind Drisdom in points per game, has also recorded a 52.4 percentage and leads the Broncos with 142 rebounds on the season.

Daniel Rodriguez has proven to be the most efficient of the Bronco shooters, posting a 59.2 shooting percentage from the field. Four Broncos are within two shots of the team lead for three pointers, Drisdom has 22 to his name, Barry Bell and Jordan Finn each have made 21, and Quentin Taylor has put up 20.

On Saturday, the Broncos will host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Homecoming Day. The Cal Poly Pomona campus will be regaling itself in a day of celebration and festivities and athletics will play a large part of that.

Early in the day, baseball will host a doubleheader against the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes, with start times at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Then Broncos' Basketball will entertain into the night, with a 5:30 p.m. women's start time and a 7:30 p.m. men's game. All fans will receive a free raffle ticket to possibly win a six-burner grill and all CPP students will also receive a raffle ticket for an opportunity to attempt a halfcourt shot and win prizes.

With their first game against the Toros on Jan. 16, CPP proved the victor and secured a 59-46 win over them while playing the visitor role at the Torodome. Three Broncos recorded double-digit points and the nationally-leading CPP defense held CSUDH to just a 35.6 shooting percentage.

Since the season began, the Toros have registered a 6-18 record, complete with a 2-16 CCAA mark. Tyler Payne has guided the offense as he leads the conference with a 50-percent mark from beyond the arc.

Postseason Picture
The top six CCAA teams will advance to the conference tournament to be held in Stockton from March 5 through March 7 and the Broncos have clinched a spot in that event. The NCAA Division II Tournament bracket will be unveiled on Sunday, March 8, with the top West Region squads earning spots.
