Pack the Stands! @cppwsoccer vs. Toros

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer program will host its annual Pack the Stands game on Friday evening with a 4:30 start against the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros. The game will take place at Kellogg Field on the CPP campus and will be the first meeting of the two California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) schools this season.

Thus far in 2015, the Green and Gold have secured a 4-2 record, including an even 1-1 mark in CCAA play. During last weekend's CCAA opener, the Broncos bested UC San Diego 3-2 in overtime. The CPP squad then played Cal State San Marcos, the conference newcomer, and was defeated 2-1.

The all-time record between the Broncos and Toros leans in the CSUDH team's favor as they have topped the Broncos 32 times to CPP's 22 wins and the squads have tied a total of nine times. Last season, in the lone meeting of the season, the Toros left Kellogg Field as the victor with a score of 2-0.

Looking at the post-game stats from the 2014 matchup, the Broncos did outshoot their CCAA rivals 18-6, but a strong defensive performance from the Dominguez squad and nine saves from their goalie boosted them to a win.

Sunday's matchup will be another event day for the Broncos as they hold Special Olympics Recognition Day, in which CPP will recognize and honor some of the athletes who participated in the Special Olympics Games held in Los Angeles just a short time ago.

CPP women's soccer will take Saturday off and again play the role of host as Cal State L.A. makes its way to Kellogg Field. An 11:30 am start will mark the first meeting of the two since last season's NCAA Division II Second Round where the Green and Gold topped then nationally-ranked CSULA 1-0.

Looking at the all-time record between the two shows the Broncos with a decided edge over the Golden Eagles. The Green and Gold have won 21 of the two squad's meetings while Cal State L.A., who is located just 22 miles west, have won nine. On six separate occasions the two teams have tied.

One such example of a tie is the final game of the 2014 regular season between the two. CPP entered the game knowing that they were going to face the most successful defense in the conference. With just six minutes to play and trailing 2-0, the Green and Gold rallied for two goals to send the game to overtime and eventual 2-2 tie. The tie earned the Broncos the No. 3 seed in the CCAA Tournament.
