Broncos Remain Undefeated at 12-0!

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.- The  No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball continues to extend the record-setting beginning of their season as they topped the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes 82-72 on Friday.

With the victory, the Broncos now sit alone atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with a 5-0 record. The result also raises their season tally to 12-0.

Four members of the Broncos' squad reached double-digit points in the contest and Jordan Faison, who led the point tally, also led the defense with 10 rebounds. His 17 points on top of the boards provided him with a double-double.

Also earning double-digit points for the Green and Gold was Quentin Taylor, who came in a close second with 16 points.  He led the Broncos with three successful shots from beyond the arc.

Daylan Lawrence and Barry Bell rounded out the CPP double-digit scorers for the contest. Lawrence provided the Broncos with 12 points and Bell added 11.  Taylor and Jeremy Dennis led the Green and Gold with four assists each. Dennis also added three steals to the game.

The Broncos outshot the Coyotes in the contest, sinking 27 shots to the home team's 22. CPP, as a team, shot 51.9% in the game and also a stellar 19-for-23 from the free throw line.

In the first half, the game saw two relatively even displays with both teams carrying a lead at some point. CSUSB jumped into the lead first, scoring five points before a Bell jumper put CPP on the board. The Broncos' second largest run of the game came a few minutes later as they tied the score at 8-8 and added an eight-point spree.

The Green and Gold held the need for the next ten minutes until the Coyotes found themselves on their longest run of the game. CSUSB tallied 10 points and jumped in front by a margin of five points.

For the next few minutes the Coyotes carried a lead. Until the final minute of the half, the Broncos played catch up. A Taylor layup tied the game at 35-35 and was quickly followed by a Lawrence layup that gave CPP the lead that it would carry through the remainder of the contest.

The score heading into halftime was 37-35.  In the second half, the Broncos posted 35 points and at one point even led the Coyotes by 20 points. CPP's 82 points marks their fourth-highest point tally of the season.

The Green and Gold will continue their undefeated season on Saturday as they head south to challenge the UC San Diego Tritons at RIMAC Arena at 7:30 p.m. The Tritons drew their first loss in CCAA play on Friday as they lost to the Humboldt State Jacks 82-72. The Tritons are now 9-2 overall with a 4-1 showing in conference play.
