POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team starts a three-match road stretch this week with a pair of matches in San Diego County.
On Friday, the Broncos play at Cal State San Marcos. Then on Saturday, CPP takes on UC San Diego in La Jolla. Both contests are set to start at 7 p.m.
Despite still searching for their first conference win, the Broncos played well against nationally-ranked Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday through the final two sets. Currently, CPP ranks fifth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in blocks with an average of two per set.
Three Broncos continue to average above 0.90 blocks per set with
Desi Martin,
Alexandra Gresham and
Kristen Hamlin leading the way. Martin, a sophomore from San Diego, is at No. 8 on the CCAA leaderboard for that statistic.
Junior
Samantha Figueroa continues to lead the conference in digs per set, averaging 5.48. She has tallied 20 or more digs in each of the last three matches, including 21 on Saturday against the Coyotes.
Currently for this week's opponents, Cal State San Marcos is 4-3 in league action while UCSD owns a 6-2 mark in the CCAA.
After this stretch of three matches, the Broncos will play six of their final eight regular season contests at Kellogg Arena. CPP's next home match will be Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The first 100 CPP students will receive a free tumbler courtesy of University Housing Services.
