LOS ANGELES – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team secured a pivotal road win on Friday, defeating Cal State L.A. to move up to fourth in the
conference standings.
The Broncos improved to 6-5-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), matching the conference record of Cal State San Marcos and rising above the Golden Eagles with Friday's victory. On Sunday, CPP will travel to play Cal State Dominguez Hills at 2 p.m.
With just 15 seconds remaining in the first half on Friday, sophomore defender
Natalie Di Angelo knocked in a clutch header after
Daisy Duran sent a corner kick into the box.
That gave the Broncos a boost heading into halftime and at the 53:34 mark, CPP struck again.
Tori Tappero delivered a cross and
Sydney Yates sprinted in for a one-timer into the back of the net. It marked the second assist of the season for Tappero and the fifth goal of 2016 for Yates.
The Broncos' defense kept pressure off of goalkeeper
Ricki Ives, who didn't end up needing to make a save. Despite eight shots, the Golden Eagles couldn't manage a shot on goal.
