Broncos' Draw Secures 1st-Round Home Game

POMONA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Cal State San Marcos on Thursday afternoon. The result secures the Broncos a first-round home game in the conference tournament on Nov. 1 with the start time still to be determined.

The Broncos' marks settle at 7-5-3 overall and 6-3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) while the Cougars are three points behind in the standings at 7-4-5 overall and 5-4-2 in league play. Fourth-place CPP is undefeated in its last three contests with shutouts in each of them. The conference standings can be viewed here.

The Broncos' best scoring opportunity came in the first overtime when junior forward Stephanie Rodriguez earned a chance in the box but sent a shot attempt just wide of the net.

In the first half, senior forward Tori Tappero got a breakway opportunity but her attempt went wide as well.

The CSUSM offense put plenty of pressure on the Broncos as the visitors outshot CPP 14-7. The Cougars also earned nine corner kicks while the Broncos attempted one. CPP held tough though and goalkeeper Ricki Ives collected five saves to earn the shutout.

The Broncos will return to action on Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. matchup against nationally-ranked UC San Diego. Prior to the match, CPP will honor its senior class in a ceremony.
