POMONA, Calif. - Entering Tuesday's showdown against sixth-seeded Cal State LA at Kellogg Field, the third-seeded Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team has two objectives: begin its defense of the 2015 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament title and improve its standing in the West Region.
The Broncos own an overall record of 12-4-2 but every advancing squad receives a clean slate heading into playoffs. So far in 2016, CPP has produced a 7-2-2 mark at home. Tuesday's match with the Golden Eagles will start at 7 p.m. with the Broncos' women's soccer program hosting Stanislaus State at 4:30 p.m. on the same day.
For men's soccer this season, CPP and Cal State LA have already met on two occasions. The squads played to a 0-0 draw in Pomona on Sept. 6 and then the Broncos defeated the Golden Eagles 1-0 on Oct. 21 in Los Angeles.
With the semifinal and final of this week's tournament being held in Turlock, the winner of Tuesday's matchup will advance to play second-seeded Sonoma State at 11 a.m. on Friday. The championships of the conference tournament will start at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
This week marks the fourth all-time appearance for the Broncos at the CCAA Tournament with the previous occurrences coming in 1998, 2014 and 2015.
