@cppmsoccer to Host Warriors Friday Night

POMONA, Calif. – After being dealt a 1-0 defeat on Sunday at Chico State, the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team will look to start a new winning streak this week with a pair of home games.

On Friday at 7 p.m., CPP hosts Stanislaus State at Kellogg Field. The first 75 CPP students to arrive for the 4:30 p.m. doubleheader will receive a free mini USB car charger adapter courtesy of Parking and Transportation Services.

Then on Sunday at home, the Broncos will play Cal State East Bay with kickoff set for 2 p.m.

At 8-3-1 overall and 4-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), CPP is tied for second in the conference standings with Cal State Dominguez Hills. First-place Sonoma State sits at 4-1-1, one point ahead of the Broncos and Toros.

Friday's opponent – Stanislaus State – owns an overall mark of 1-5-3 while going 0-4 in CCAA play. Cal State East Bay, Sunday's challenger, has posted records of 5-5 overall and 1-3 through league action.

So far this season, CPP has outscored its opponents 11-6 through the first 12 games. Eight of the Broncos' 12 goals have come from Sergi Monso. The midfielder from Barcelona, Spain, second on the CCAA leaderboard, only trailing Joey Chica's 10 scores with Cal State Dominguez Hills. On the national leaderboard, Monso is third in game-winning goals with five and 15th in total goals.

CPP's Jason Trejos leads all of NCAA Division II in minutes played for goalkeepers as he's totaled 1,111. He's also helped the Broncos rank ninth nationally in lowest goals against average with a 0.49 mark. Teammate Nadeer Ghantous has also played more than 1,000 minutes this season while bolstering the Broncos' backline of defense.

Including this week's pair of matches, a total of four home contests remain in the regular season schedule for CPP. If the Broncos remain in one of the top spots in the CCAA standings, they'll be able to host a first-round playoff game on Nov. 1.
