CPP Hosts Stan State on Pack the Stands Night

POMONA, Calif. – As one of six teams with 10 or more points in the conference standings, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team aims to continue rising up the ranks this week with home games on Friday and Sunday.

On Friday at 4:30 p.m., CPP hosts Stanislaus State at Kellogg Field. The first 75 CPP students to arrive will receive a free mini USB car charger adapter courtesy of Parking and Transportation Services.

Then on Sunday at home, the Broncos will play Cal State East Bay with kickoff set for 11:30 a.m.

Fifth-place CPP owns a 4-4-2 overall mark while going 3-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). This week's opponents – the Warriors and Pioneers – hold identical conference records of 1-3.

Now at the midway point in the CCAA regular season, all eyes are on the standings through the month of October. The top six teams will advance to the conference tournament. The first round will be held on campus sites Nov. 1 before the semifinal and final rounds move to Turlock on Nov. 4 and Nov. 6.

Sophomore forward Sydney Yates and senior midfielder Hailey James have proven to be the Broncos' top offensive threats through the first half of league play. Yates has scored three goals and added two assists while James has tallied two goals and an assist. Both of James' scores have been game winners in overtime, including Sunday's goal in the 100th minute to defeat Chico State.

Junior goalkeeper Ricki Ives ranks 12th nationally in minutes played with 964. Not far behind are the 877 minutes from Broncos' defender Emily Sanchez, who netted the equalizer goal in Chico on Sunday.

Including this week's pair of matches, a total of four home contests remain in the regular season schedule for CPP. If the Broncos are able to move into one of the top spots in the CCAA standings, they'll be able to host a first-round playoff game on Nov. 1.
