POMONA, Calif. – Sophomore
Natalie Di Angelo, a top-notch defender, picked the perfect time for her third career goal.
Her header in the 84th minute off a corner kick proved to be the game winner, lifting Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer to a 2-1 victory over Stanislaus State on Friday at Kellogg Field. The assist came from
Hailey James at the left corner.
The win pushes the Broncos up to fourth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with a 4-2-1 mark in league play. CPP owns an overall record of 5-4-2. Meanwhile Stanislaus State drops to 7-4 overall and 1-4 through CCAA action.
The two teams had traded goals early in the second half. Sophomore
Sydney Yates put CPP on the board with a penalty kick at the 56:42 mark and then the Warriors netted the equalizer at 59:38 when she converted on a penalty kick opportunity.
Yates' second-half goal is the fourth score for her this season. She now moves up to No. 7 on the conference leaderboard.
The Broncos outshot the Warriors 18-6 through the 90 minutes of action. CPP also earned 12 corner kicks as compared to Stanislaus' one.
Up next for the Broncos will be an 11:30 a.m. home match against Cal State East Bay.
